The blue colour that is often present on your mushrooms is a natural process that occurs in psilocybin mushrooms known as “bruising” or “bluing”. The exact reason for this is still uncertain however the widely accepted belief is that bruising occurs due to the degradation of psilocin by enzymes within the mushroom’s cell as a reaction to oxidation.
Because of this, bruising in believed to be an effective confirmation that psilocin and/or psilocybin is present in the mushroom.
Chocolate can begin to develop bloom (a white/greyish film) due to temperature fluctuations causing the cocoa butter to separate from the cocoa solid. Typically this is the result of chocolates being stored in the fridge and then being brought back out to room temperature however this could also happen during delivery depending on the season and how your package is handled. During seasonal temperature highs and lows we do our best to ship your chocolates in Cool Shield bubble mailers to avoid this in transport.
When your chocolate has arrived, we recommend storing it in a cool dark place and avoid placing them in your fridge or freezer. While the bloom can affect the colour and occasionally the texture of the chocolate, it usually does not affect the taste and is safe to eat.
We recommend that you never take psilocybin in combination with any alcohol or drugs, prescription or recreational.
As mentioned by Double Blind Magazine, the main potential contraindications for psilocybin mushroom experiences include: heart condition, psychotic spectrum disorder, pregnancy and/or breastfeeding, and medications that interact with serotonin receptors, mainly SSRI and SNRI antidepressants. If this is you, or you have another chronic health condition, or you’re on any daily medication, you need to do more research or possibly speak with a doctor on whether psilocybin can aggravate your condition or interact with your meds.
No. Psilocybin mushrooms are not considered addictive as they offer experiences that are typically too experiential and require too much psychological involvement to offer the same escape that alcohol and other recreational drugs can. Additionally, psilocybin can offer users very challenging experiences that present the opportunity for understanding, growth, and acceptance that can feel quite destabilizing to their whole world view (this is why it is important to be prepared for and to educate yourself on how to navigate what could be considered a “bad trip”. Experiences while using psilocybin mushrooms have been known to even aid in the treatment of substance abuse, specifically alcoholism.

Standard drug tests used by almost all corporate and sports programs do not screen for psilocybin/psilocin. Instead their tests are focused on detecting: Cannabinoids, Cocaine, Amphetamines, Opiates, and Phencyclidine (PCP).
However if a test is ordered specifically for these compounds, it could be detected though these tests are rarely requested due to being so expensive.
Yes. While most of these negative side effects are typically only noticeable with macro-doses, micro-doses can also be a cause if doses are higher than necessary. Mindset is also extremely important to consider when using psilocybin, as even small doses can intensify current emotions. The most common negative side effects include:
- Physiological discomfort (18.0%) – Includes disrupted senses (visual), temperature dysregulation, numbing/tingling, insomnia, gastrointestinal distress, reduced appetite, and increased migraines and/or headaches for some.
- Impaired focus: Some reported poor focus, distractibility, and absent-mindedness.
- Increased Anxiety: General, social, and existential.
- Impaired Energy: Both excessive energy (restlessness, jitters) and inadequate energy (fatigue, drowsiness, brain fog).
- Impaired Mood: Mood deterioration (sadness, discontent, irritability), emotional difficulties (over-emotionality, mood swings), and impaired outlook (fear, feeling unusual).
- Social Interference: Awkwardness, oversharing, and difficulties with sentence-production in social settings.
- Cognitive interference: Confusion, disorientation, racing thoughts, and poor memory.
- Self-Interference: Self-processing concerns (dissociation, depersonalization) and self-sabotaging (rumination, over-analysis).
- Increased Symptoms (Other): After-effects (Substance tolerance, comedown or hangover) and also more concerning, but rare, adverse psychological events.
Additionally, it is important to keep in mind that there is still a great need for further medical studies to better understand the long term effects of micro-dosing and psilocybin use in general. With that in consideration, it is recommended that individuals do not micro-dose for extended periods of time beyond 90 day periods without taking a month to reset.
If you have high anxiety, mood disorders, struggle with episodes of psychosis, or are currently dealing with other psychological challenges you should reach out to a psychedelic therapy clinic and speak to a professional who could best discuss how using psilocybin could benefit you in a safe and guided environment.
Self-medicating with psilocybin for individuals in these circumstances could have negative consequences if not done safely and under the guidance of professionals.
